That time I wrote the first serial novel ever published on the website of a major city newspaper


Here's the article in the Asheville Citizen-Times announcing the launch of Ashes to Asheville, the real-time weekly serial novel I wrote from April of 2016 until I concluded the story in November of 2017. I didn't know it at the time, but Ashes is the first serial novel ever published on the website of a major daily newspaper. Early each Thursday I finished writing that week's installment, and by 9 a.m. that morning it was published on the paper's website. The cool thing was that I could include, and weave into the story, all kinds of events that had happened just days before, be it in Asheville or anywhere else. I also made a successful podcast simply by reading each week's installment of Ashes. It sounds crazy to say, but for a couple of months there Ashes was one of the 50 most popular literary podcasts in the world. Here's the image I used to accompany the podcast wherever it was published:
